The King

There once was a beautiful flower,
that did light up my world.
She was my Queen, and I her King.

And our love did sit on a wall,
and I bumped it repeatedly,
til it had a great fall.

And all this King's horses
and all this King's men,
couldn't put the pieces
together again.

Our love laid in a coma,
barely hanging onto life,
and her prognosis gave no hope.

So she tugged at the feeding tube,
again and again,
that kept our love alive,
at least for me.

I held on with all my might,
as I just could not let it go,
because I loved her so,
and I could not bare to see it die.

She said it died long ago,
but she just couldn't
let me know,
til this time did finally arrive.

I fought and fought with all my might,
I just could not give up this fight,
to keep our love alive.

Until the day, from her words,
I could see there was,
no other way,
so I did grant her wish.

She pulled out the plug,
and before my eyes,
I did watch this true love die,

and I can only say,
I wish with all of my heart,
there could have been
another way.

I thought I was her King of Hearts,
but I'm just the King of all Fools.
