I Can Not Swallow

I do not wish to bring you grief,
and unsettle your heart,

but I can not swallow
the lumps in my throat
that chokes me.

I do not wish to break your heart
as you break mine,

but I can not swallow
these lumps that are
the broken pieces.

So, how easy would it be to go?,
not so.

And, how easy would it be to stay?,
not so.

And, how easy would it be to do
the choking again and again?,
not so.

If for freedom,
you have this need,
that of the single,

then be single not with me,
if be that you must.

So all the room you need I give,
but in the only way I know.

One from two,
single and single,

as single does,
singularly alone.

You and I no more.
