The road to nowhere

The road to nowhere 
led me to you,
and back again
to where I now am.

No stops along the way,
but to wonder why.

Nothing to show for the jouney 
but wasted mile and wasted time, 
and a heart full of emptiness.

So what was the purpose 
of this little detour
along the way
to where I do not know,

and the sadest part about it is 
that I may never know,

though this I will question forevermore.
