for the girls

This is for the girls.

Thanks for all the honks,
and the waves,
and the whistles,
day by day,

as I make my way to nowhere,
down the side of these roads,
trying to sort out this mess,
and make sense of it all.

It’s really appreciated,
because I need the recognition,
that I might be something worthy
of a look or two.

And thanks for not stopping,
because I would have no idea
what to say, to women that would
honk this way,

And thanks for recognizing me,
as a piece of meat,
that would make you
lick your lips.

What little I have left of my ego,
does need every boost it can get,
for I’m a man thrown away,
with no value she could see,

and you have no idea,
how badly that hurt me.

And I’m glad I always remember
my darkest glasses,
so my tears you couldn’t see,
for if you did,
you might not
honk at me.
