don't you remember

Tears to bed and tears to rise.

Three hours sleep with one eye opened,
on the clock.

Another of the worst of nightmares,
only to wake does no good,
for they follow me into my waking hours.

And she went crazy,
and didn’t even know who I was,

and I called out her name,
and said, "it is me,
I’m your man, don’t you remember,
the man who loves you so much,

and you loved me too, just as much,
don’t you remember,

and you are my woman,
why can’t you remember me",

but she just stared over my shoulder,
and said, "I don’t know you,
and you are not my man,
for he is another and not you,

and I am his woman and not yours".

And I cried out in pain
that woke me to look at clock once more,
and again and again,

only to fall back to sleep,
into the same nightmare,
just where I left off,

and again I said,
"it is me,
I’m your man, don’t you remember,
the man who loves you so much",

And I cried out in pain
that woke me to look at clock once more,
and again and again,

only to fall back to sleep,
into the same nightmare,
just where I left off,

And I cried out in pain again
that woke me to look at clock once more,
and decided, I was too afraid
to try to go back to sleep again,
for this night at least.

Maybe tonight, with the help of a few pills,
I can catch up on my sleep.
