I almost dialed

I called you from the darkness,
but not with phone,
as badly as I wanted to.

I wanted to hear you say
everything would be alright,
but I knew what we had, had left.
It walked out that door last night.

I'm sure you didn't think I cared.
Not that much and not enough
or maybe not at all,
though you couldn't be more wrong.

You knew the one thing that
would chase me away,
and rubbed it in my face,
so what was I to do.

And I wonder why you felt this need
to test me past my limit.

And I wonder if you cared that much
or if you even cared at all.

I can not read your mind
but only the actions that spoke so loud.

So, you knew I would not call you
and I knew you would not call me,
so there was no call made.
Foolish pride possessed by fools.

Now I have empty heart, to match my pockets,
because you were all that I had left.
