The Branding

It is hard for me to find the words
to describe the way I felt about her.

She had burned her brand
so deeply into my heart,
her brand of love.

All I could ever think about
was being with her,
and being loved by her.

My heart burned
with desire for her.

When I held her
or even got near her,
I got weak in the knees.

Her smile was like
a little taste of heaven,
and I couldn't get enough.

I know that she was afraid
to fall in love again,
and especially so soon,
but I sensed that she had
some very strong feeling for me
just as I did for her.

If she would have given me her heart,
for which I had a desire so strongly,
I would have cared for it
as if my life depended on it.

She would have never been sorry
if she had trusted me with such a gift.

She was my world,
my best friend,
my soul mate,
and I gave her my all.

It wasn't enough.

All that's left are the memories
and the brand she left behind.

It's there in my heart, forever.
