still holding you

Please forgive me if
who you thought I was,
be not just who I be.

We all hide behind
our masks for safety.

And if you only knew right then,
just who I be,

would you have still become my friend,
or even loved me and this so much more.

So I be who I am,
and truly so do you,

but once we thought we'd found it,
yes we thought we knew.

How could we have been so wrong,
I only wish I knew,

cause all things ever needed,
I thought I saw in you.

Fools get what they deserve,
I say in missing you,

and if I was not a fool,
maybe I'd still be

holding you,
holding you.

But holding you,
only in my mind,
my heart,
my soul,

just isn't the same,
still it's hard to let go.
