unplaced, placeless

Lack of enthusiasm,

make me feel unappreciated,
make me feel unimportant,
make me feel taken as granted,
make me feel unwelcomed,
make me feel unwanted,
make me feel like a burden,
make me feel unloved,
make me feel confused,

just the way I feel
right now.

I never felt these things
once upon a time,

when I knew without a doubt,
by the things you said and did,

that I was appreciated
for who and what I was to you,

that I was important to you
there in your life,

that I was treasured by you
in every way,

that I was welcomed by you
any time and always,

that I was wanted by you
with a desire so strong

that I was your strength
in your weakest times,

that I was loved by you
as much as all things important,
in your life.

I remember.

I remember
words said,
deeds done,
all things big
and small

that showed me,
let me know,

just what I
in your life
meant to you.

Those things
long since
unseen,

and is no sign
a sign
in and of itself?

From this un-enthusiastic indifference,

I feel like thorn
in your paw,

unplaced, placeless.
