door wide open

I put her pictures away,
back in the drawer,
where I’ve put
so many before.

I thought my journey
had reached it’s end,
but she did prove me wrong,

She said she thought
that I hated women,
but this just is not true.

I was just looking for a good one,
and I thought my job was through.

Was she good, that just turned bad,
why is it I can’t see?

For I thought she was that good one,
when she first came to me,

but in time, things went astray,
and she tried to get away,
but I couldn’t watch her go,

knowing how I felt for her,
deep inside my heart.

I fought with all my might,
and waited for the day,

these haunting evil spirits
would be gone to stay,

but with the door wide open,
and her beckoning them in,

I knew I had no chance,
and could never win,
so why did I try?

It was all for love,
the love I held for her,
deep inside my heart.

I thought it would be enough.

I really did.
